Google’s All-Cy Pres $62 Million Geolocation Deal Gets Early Nod

Google and app users who alleged their geolocation data was tracked and used despite disabling settings won preliminary approval on Thursday of a $62 million class-action settlement that plaintiffs’ counsel said would provide the greatest benefit by donating all of that money to nonprofit consumer education groups.

Judge Edward Davila with the US District Court for the Northern District of California conditionally approved the proposed settlement that would end litigation filed in 2018 claiming Google knowingly violated the privacy rights of millions of US mobile device users who accessed map and search services.
