Google’s $62 Million Settlement Allocation Poses Fairness Debate

Google LLC’s $62 million privacy class action settlement, which likely would have provided millions of class members just a few cents each, left a panel of federal appeals court judges wrestling with the fairness of allocating the funds to advocacy groups instead.

Some of the estimated 247 million class members, Google account owners whose locations were surreptitiously tracked by the company, are asking the US Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit to overturn the settlement approved last year by a San Jose, Calif., federal district court.
