Google reached a settlement in principle with those who alleged that the search-and-ad giant sells the information of US accountholders to facilitate individualized targeting, according to a legal filing.
The plaintiffs in their complaint criticized “real-time bidding,” which Google describes as the process in which digital advertising inventory is bought and sold. They told the US District Court for the Northern District of California in the complaint that Google sells the data of hundreds of millions of people, despite saying it wouldn’t put the information to market, and without providing sufficient means to opt-out.
