Google Defeats User’s Negligence Claims Over Scam Ad on Website

Google LLC isn’t liable for financial losses suffered by a user who divulged Ebay account and other personal information through a scam ad that appeared on a Google search page.

Judge John G. Koeltl of the US District Court for the Southern District of New York Thursday granted Google’s motion to dismiss, saying the company can’t be held liable for a failure to edit or block content generated by another user or entity, under section 230 of the Communications Decency Act.
