SCOTUSblog founder Tom Goldstein lost a bid to substitute different collateral for his appearance bond, when court said Friday his marital residence was necessary to ensure he doesn’t flee.
He’s traveled extensively internationally, including within the last year, and he has lots of international contacts, Judge Lydia Kay Griggsby said. He’s also facing “quite serious allegations,” and the government has claimed to have extensive evidence, including bank records, contemporaneous communications, and numerous witnesses.
As it stands, having him put his house up as collateral is an “essential element” of his conditions of release, she said.
