Godiva ‘Belgium 1926' False-Ad Settlement Gets Final Nod

Consumers who alleged Godiva Chocolatier Inc. duped them about the provenance of its chocolates won final approval of a settlement involving roughly $7.5 million in claims—half the amount the company had agreed to pay.

The deal got the nod from the the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York despite challenges from two objectors and concerns from state attorneys general over the lawyers’ fees, notice, and other aspects of the settlement that allegedly depressed the claims rate.
