GNC brand “Triple Strength Fish Oil” is deceptively marketed because its processing method removes essential fatty acids that would otherwise occur naturally, a proposed class suit in a California federal court against producer-suppliers International Vitamin Corp. and unit Nutra Manufacturing LLC alleges.
Calling the product “fish oil” is fraudulent, deceptive and misleading, New Yorker John Gatto alleges in a suit filed Thursday in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California.
Scientists recommend fatty fish because it provides health benefits for conditions such as cardiovascular disease, age-related macular degeneration, dementia, and arthritis, Gatto says.
