GM, Toyota, Others Beat Infotainment Suits Over Recorded Texts

Separate lawsuits against General Motors, Toyota, Volkswagen and Honda alleging their car infotainment systems recorded users’ private communications in violation of state privacy law were properly dismissed by a lower court, a federal appeals court ruled.

The plaintiffs failed to allege an injury to their business, property, or reputation, a threshold requirement for stating a claim under the Washington Privacy Act, the US Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit said Tuesday in separate unsigned opinions.
