GM, LG Get Claims Narrowed in Chevy Bolt Battery Fire Litigation

General Motors LLC and units of South Korean conglomerate LG Chem Ltd. got claims trimmed from a proposed nationwide class action alleging flawed batteries in Chevy Bolt electric vehicles can cause the battery to burst into flames.

Drivers allege defects can cause increasing temperatures that may result in a fire if a vehicle is at or near full charge. Fires have occurred in a small number of vehicles.

GM issued several software updates that prevented the Bolts from being fully charged, and directed consumers to take measures that would limit risk, such as advising them to park outdoors.
