Georgia Six-Week Abortion Law Remains in Effect Pending Suit

Abortion after the sixth week of pregnancy is illegal in Georgia for now, as reproductive rights groups on Monday lost a bid to stop the state from enforcing the ban while a suit testing its validity under the state constitution is pending.

Georgia hasn’t waived its sovereign immunity for preliminary relief in cases challenging the constitutionality of state laws, a Georgia trial court said in an opinion dismissing a motion for a preliminary injunction to stop the law’s enforcement.
