Georgia Congressional Voter Map Favoring GOP Approved By Judge

A federal judge Thursday approved Georgia’s new congressional and legislative voting districts, drawn to favor Republicans, finding that the creation of a majority-Black district in the Atlanta area satisfies his earlier demand for a map that doesn’t dilute the votes of Black people.

The approval of the maps will likely allow for Republicans to retain the 9-5 majority they hold among the state’s congressional seats, while remaining the majority party in the state Senate and House. The maps will go into effect for the 2024 election.
