Georgetown Sued Over Student Data Revealed During Recent Breach

Georgetown University has been hit with a proposed class action over a recent data breach that allegedly caused the release of student and alumni information, including everything from their Social Security numbers and birth dates to academic records.

The hack took place on Oct. 16 and 17, following a maintenance and outage period in GU’s student information system, called the GU Experience platform, according to the suit filed Oct. 18 with the US District Court for the District of Columbia.

School officials were negligent in failing to properly implement updates and maintenance, the complaint says. This
