Gen Digital to Pay Damages Award Upped From $1.3 to $53 Million

At the behest of the US government, a federal judge took a second look at its damages award against Gen Digital Inc. in a False Claims Act suit and raised it from $1.3 million to over $53 million.

The company, formerly known as Symantec Corp. and NortonLifeLock Inc., was accused in a qui tam suit, originally filed by former Symantec employee Lori Morsell, of fraudulently inducing the Government Services Administration and California to enter into contracts by knowingly making false disclosures regarding the discounts and rebates it offered to governments and other customers.
