Geisinger Health and Nuance Communications Sued Over Data Breach

Geisinger Health and its IT vendor Nuance Communications Inc. are facing at least seven proposed class actions arising from a data breach in which a former Nuance employee stole the data of more than 1.2 million Geisinger patients, seven proposed class actions said.

The plaintiffs alleged in separate lawsuits that Geisinger and Nuance breached their duties under contract, common law, the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act and the Federal Trade Commission Act to protect sensitive information.
