Gannett Sued in Texas Court for Defamation, Refusing to Pay Fees

Dallas-based tax services firm Ryan LLC is suing its former client Gannett Co., alleging that the media giant defamed it in articles published in USA Today and refused to pay its fees after helping save over $2 million in taxes.

Ryan sued Gannett in district court in Montgomery County, Texas, alleging that Gannett, the parent company of USA Today, committed fraud and unlawfully pocketed some of Ryan’s fees by saying it wasn’t going to purse a tax refund in Kentucky and then doing it anyway.
