Gallaudet Fraternity Alumni Can’t Revive Bellamy Defamation Suit

Members of Gallaudet University’s oldest fraternity lost their bid to revive a defamation lawsuit against the college and the Washington Post over a description of their organization as the “face of systemic racism.”

The Gallaudet president’s statement related to a 30-year old photo of students performing the Bellamy salute—which now resembles the Nazi salute—and the Post’s reference to the remark and description of the picture as “anti-Semitic” behavior are protected opinions under the US Constitution, the US Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit said.
