Funds Recovered in SEC Suit Alleging Scheme Targeted Churchgoers

A realty company and a law firm that allegedly received proceeds from a Ponzi scheme targeting Florida church members have settled with a court-appointed receiver for $280,000 and $27,500, respectively.

The receiver, Melanie Damian, went after Montgomery Street Realty LLC and Anthony M. Lawhon PA to recover allegedly fraudulent transfers in a “claw-back” action related to a Securities and Exchange Commission enforcement suit against Brent Seaman pending in the US District Court for the Southern District of Florida. Damian said Tuesday that the amounts have been paid and requested the court’s approval of the settlements.
