Fraud Convictions Upheld for Massachusetts State Police Officers

The First Circuit upheld fraud convictions of two Massachusetts State Police officers for bilking overtime pay from federal contracts.

Lieutenant Daniel Griffin and Sergeant William Robertson pursued their constitutional challenge to their convictions too late and lost their chance, said Judge O. Rogeriee Thompson Dec. 19 in an opinion for the US Court of Appeals for the First Circuit.

But Rogeriee sent part of the forfeiture Griffin was ordered to pay back to the district court to be recalculated.

Griffin oversaw the traffic safety program, which received federal funds to run sobriety checkpoints and “Click It or Ticket” initiatives.
