Fortnite Maker Epic Stole Bieber Choreographer’s Work, Suit Says

Epic Games Inc. was sued Tuesday in California federal court by a celebrity choreographer who alleges the company uses copyrighted works without consent to create the movements for video game characters.

Kyle Hanagami, a choreographer whose work has been used by artists including Jennifer Lopez, Britney Spears, and Justin Bieber, says Epic Games used one of his viral dances to create an “emote” for Fortnite avatars without his permission.

Hanagami copyrighted the choreography he created in a YouTube video that has nearly 36 million views, and Epic Games didn’t obtain his consent before turning the moves into an in-game purchase ...
