Former Circuit Judge Richard Posner Beats $170,000 Contract Suit

Retired Seventh Circuit Judge Richard A. Posner defeated a breach-of-contract claim Monday for $170,000 brought by the former director of his legal assistance program.

Judge Theresa Springmann of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Indiana said Brian Vukadinovich’s alleged oral employment agreement with the ex-judge was unenforceable and Vukadinovich waited too long to sue, the court’s opinion said.

Vukadinovich said he and Posner struck an agreement under which Posner would personally pay him $120,000 per year in salary for serving as the director of the Posner Center for Justice for Pro Se’s. Vukadinovich also provided “advisory services” ...
