For-Profit College Chain Sued Over Thompson Coburn Data Breach

Education Corporation of America negligently failed to protect the personal information of people affiliated with its for-profit colleges in a data breach that hit the Thompson Coburn LLP law firm, a proposed federal class action said.

Lead plaintiff Jonathan Burdette alleged in his complaint that ECA breached its duties under common law, contract law, industry standards, and the Federal Trade Commission Act to implement reasonable and adequate data-security measures and provide timely notice of the breach.
