California Safe Soil LLC is owed $1.6 million in damages for the theft of trade secrets about its process for recycling supermarket food waste into fertilizer and animal feed, the Delaware Chancery Court has ruled.
A rival company, KDC Agribusiness LLC, pursued “an honorable mission” of reducing global food waste and fighting the effects of climate change “through dishonorable means,” Vice Chancellor Morgan T. Zurn said in a 97-page opinion that was unsealed Wednesday. The opinion originally was filed Jan. 10 under seal, almost a year after a seven-day trial.
