Folgers Facing Lawsuits Alleging Shorting of Coffee in Cans

J.M. Smucker Co. and its Folgers Coffee Co. unit will face combined false advertising litigation in a Missouri federal court by consumers who allege they overstate the yield of ground coffee in Folgers canisters.

The suits share factual questions arising out of allegations that Folgers engaged in deceptive marketing practices with respect to coffee labeling, the U.S. Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation said Thursday.

All plaintiffs assert similar consumer protection law violations and other claims, and seek to represent overlapping nationwide and statewide classes of purchasers of Folgers coffee products, the panel said.
