Gunster Yoakley & Stewart Firm Sued Over 2022 Data Breach (1)

The corporate law firm of Gunster Yoakley & Stewart PA failed to protect the personal information of nearly 10,000 people, leaving it exposed in a November 2022 data breach, a proposed federal class action said.

Mary J. Whalen alleged that Gunster breached its obligations under industry standards and state and federal laws to implement adequate data-security measures, properly encrypt sensitive information, or select appropriate technology partners.

The firm also apparently failed to provide notice of the breach for almost 18 months after discovering it, depriving those affected of the chance to take quick action to protect themselves, according to a ...
