Florida Sues Roku Over Minors’ Data, Voice Record Collection

Roku’s collection and sales of data about minors’ use of its streaming service violates Florida consumer protection laws, the state’s top cop claims.

The multi-platform streamer’s collection of voice recordings and viewing preferences by minors breaks the Florida Digital Bill of Rights and Florida Deceptive and Unfair Trade Practices Act, Attorney General James Uthmeier (R) said in a complaint filed Monday in Collier County.

“Florida families deserve to know what is happening with their children’s personal information,” Uthmeier said in a statement. “We will hold any company that conceals or exploits that information accountable.”
