Florida School System Sued by PEN America Over Book Restrictions

A Florida school system violated the First and 14th Amendments by pulling or restricting access to books in school libraries based on their content, PEN America, Penguin Random House LLC, and authors of affected books allege in a new lawsuit.

The Escambia County School District and School Board disproportionately target books by non-white and LGBTQ+ authors, and books that address topics related to race or LGBTQ+ identity, according to the lawsuit, filed Wednesday in the US District Court for the Northern District of Florida at Pensacola.
