Florida Justice Canady’s Exit Gives DeSantis Next Court Pick (1)

Florida Supreme Court Justice Charles T. Canady announced his retirement from the court Monday—giving Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) an opening to further shape the state’s highest tribunal.

Canady, a former Republican congressman and state legislator, was appointed to the court in 2008 by Gov. Charlie Crist. After 17 years on the court, Canady is leaving to become director and tenured professor at the University of Florida’s Hamilton School for Classical and Civic Education, he said.
