Florida needs 13 more circuit court and 12 more county court judges to alleviate overloaded dockets in some of the state’s fastest-growing areas, the state Supreme Court said Wednesday in an opinion seeking funding from lawmakers.
The ruling, required under the Florida Constitution, called on the legislature to appropriate funds for more than two dozen trial court judges based off of an analysis of caseload statistics. The court is asking primarily for new judges in areas where the workload greatly exceeds targets.
