Florida Court Dubious of Home Insurers’ Ask to Block Lawyer Fees

The home insurance industry’s calls to block attorney fees for insurance policyholders ran into a skeptical Florida Supreme Court Wednesday, with justices openly pushing back against the industry beset by the most lawsuits in the country.

While more than half of the nation’s property insurance litigation takes place in Florida, that doesn’t necessarily mean legislative efforts to rescue the natural disaster-stricken industry and tamp down prices apply retroactively to existing policies, the court suggested.
