The city of Port St. Lucie will have to defend part of a lawsuit alleging it discriminated against a woman due to her being a disabled person with Lupus and other related autoimmune issues, a federal judge in Florida said.
Renee Helmke alleged that she worked from home from the start of the Covid-19 pandemic in March 2020 until she was discharged from her position in December 2021. There was a short period of time that she worked four-hour shifts in person, twice-a-week, before her physician advised her to only work remotely, she said.
