Florida Agency Beats Worker Claims of Payback for Past Bias Suit

A Florida Department of Juvenile Justice employee who previously proved race and sex discrimination claims by the agency lacked evidence she was subsequently retaliated against, a federal judge ruled, dismissing her new suit.

A jury awarded Lawanna Tynes nearly $925,000 and the department was separately ordered to reinstate her to a different position, but at the same pay and away from her then supervisor. The Eleventh Circuit affirmed that judgment and the US Supreme Court denied review.
