A $1.275 million Flexsteel Industries Inc. class settlement, resolving employees’ allegations that they were laid off early in the Covid-19 pandemic without proper notice or severance, got final approval from a federal court in Iowa.
Former employees at the furniture maker’s manufacturing centers in Dubuque, Iowa, and Starkville, Miss., alleged Flexsteel violated the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act by failing to give 60 days’ notice of the plant closures. Additionally, they said the company violated the Employee Retirement Income Security Act by failing to pay severance in accordance with previously established benefit plans.
