The National Marine Fisheries Service issued permits that will threaten the future of coho salmon in the Shasta River in California despite the agency’s claim to the contrary, conservation groups told a federal court in the state Wednesday.
The agency’s permits violate the Endangered Species Act, according to the complaint filed in the US District Court for the Northern District of California. The agency’s review of how the permits will affect coho salmon also violates the National Environmental Policy Act, the lawsuit says.
