Fired Jewish C.U.N.Y. Professor Sues School for Religious Bias

A fired Jewish adjunct professor at the City University of New York’s Queens College is suing the school claiming she and five non-party Jewish colleagues were fired in May 2023 while retaining less qualified teachers in an act of discrimination.

Their dismissal was part of an effort to “clean house” of Jewish staff in the accounting department, according to plaintiff Helen Schwalb’s complaint.

Schwalb filed her lawsuit Friday at the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York, alleging discrimination and retaliation claims under 42 U.S.C. § 1981, and the New York State Human Rights Law.
