Firearm, Ammunition Ban for Felons Upheld by Michigan Court

The Michigan Court of Appeals rejected arguments that a law prohibiting felons from having firearms or ammunition for several years after their sentence and probation are completed are incompatible with recent US Supreme Court decisions.

The state’s felon-in-possession law, which prohibits firearm and ammunition possession for people convicted of felonies punishable by four years or more in prison and other specific felonies, is in line with the US’ “historical tradition” of firearm regulation, a three-judge panel wrote Tuesday in a per curiam opinion.
