Fig Bar Maker Must Face Trimmed Suit Over ‘Wholesome’ Marketing

Nature’s Bakery LLC can’t shed a consumer’s claims that it misled buyers about how “wholesome” its fig bars are, but the snackmaker beat another claim that the sugary bars shouldn’t be marketed as healthy.

The fig bars are advertised with phrases like “wholesome baked in” and “equal parts wholesome and delicious,” even though the products contain contain high levels of sugar, according to the lawsuit.

Reasonable consumers might be misled about the “wholesome” nature of the products, the US District Court for the Northern District of California said Feb. 21.
