The US Supreme Court vacated and remanded a decision reinstating bribery and money laundering convictions of Twenty-First Century Fox executive Hernán Lopez and Argentinian sports marketing group Full Play Group SA.
The order comes roughly a month after Solicitor General John Sauer reportedly directed Eastern District of New York chief prosecutor Joseph Nocella to ask the trial judge to overturn the guilty verdicts.
The Federal Rules of Criminal Procedure allow the government to seek dismissal of an indictment, even after a jury has found a defendant guilty and the district court has entered judgment.
