Federal Transgender Care Policy Remains Blocked After Appeal (1)

A clash between religious rights and health-care access was resolved Friday as the Fifth Circuit affirmed an order permanently blocking the US government from forcing Christian doctors and hospitals to provide gender-confirming care to transgender people.

The US Health and Human Services Department lacks the power to require professionals to provide services, procedures, or products they object to based on their religious beliefs in this instance, the US Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit said in a case likely to wind up before the US Supreme Court.
