The FDA aims to recruit a new deputy commissioner to oversee food policy and safety under a proposed vision for a unified foods program, according to plans released by the agency Tuesday.
Under the proposal, the FDA would combine the Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition, Office of Food Policy and Response, and certain functions of the Office of Regulatory Affairs under a single leader. This person would report directly to Food and Drug Administration Commissioner Robert Califf, according to the proposal.
