Farmers Insurance Sex Bias Settlement Preliminarily Approved

Farmers Insurance Group and about 300 female attorneys in the litigation department who alleged the company paid them less than their male colleagues won preliminary approval of a $4.1 million settlement from a federal judge in California (Coates v. Farmers Group, Inc., N.D. Cal., No. 5:15-cv-01913, preliminary settlement approval 6/27/16).

The agreement is a “fair and reasonable” resolution of the claims brought by a nationwide class under the Equal Pay Act and Title VII of the 1964 Civil Rights Act, Judge Lucy H. Koh of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California said June 27. ...
