Fandom Inc. agreed to pay $1.2 million to settle an proposed class action where plaintiffs alleged its use of online advertising trackers on GameSpot’s website violated their privacy rights, according to a preliminarily approved settlement.
The settlement deal—based on an estimated class size of 860,000 people—would see people with approved claims likely recover up to $216. That rough estimate provided by counsel for the plaintiffs was based on about 4.3 million unique California IP addresses accessing the GameSpot site during the class period, and a Washington Post report that indicated the US has 5 IP addresses for each person. ...
