Exxon Mobil Cuts $8 Million From Texas Plant Explosion Verdict

Exxon Mobil Corp. erased $8 million of a $27 million jury verdict awarded to workers injured in an ethylene plant explosion near Houston, a Texas appeals court ruled Thursday, sending some claims back to the trial court as the company looks to slash the verdict further.

The appeals court ordered a second trial on negligence claims for two of the three plaintiffs and ruled the other plaintiff is no longer a party after the court ruled he won’t get anything in a mental anguish award that Exxon challenged.
