Ex-UConn Soccer Player Booted for Gesture Has Bias Suit Revived

The University of Connecticut must face reinstated sex discrimination claims by a former member of its women’s soccer team who was kicked off the squad and lost her athletic scholarship after she made an obscene gesture that was broadcast live.

Noriana Radwan may proceed with her Title IX claim because she presented enough evidence to raise a triable issue of fact as to whether she was more severely disciplined because of her gender, the US Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit ruled in a Wednesday opinion written by Judge Joseph F. Bianco.
