Prudential, Workers’ Lawyers Defeat Appeal Over Bias Settlement

Three former Prudential Securities Inc. employees failed to revive a lawsuit alleging the brokerage conspired with the workers’ lawyers to settle their race discrimination claims for less than fair value.

The US Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit on Wednesday affirmed the November 2019 dismissal of Maureen Dowe, Elvie Moore, and Esther Buckram’s suit against PSI successor Prudential Financial Inc., Leeds Morelli & Brown PC—now known as Leeds Brown Law PC—and various individual defendants. The suit concerned settlements the workers accepted in the late 1990s.
