Ex-Ohio House Speaker’s RICO Conviction Should Stand, DOJ Says

Former Ohio House Speaker Larry Householder’s racketeering conspiracy conviction in a scandal involving FirstEnergy Corp. should stand, the Justice Department told the US Supreme Court.

While the former Republican official argued that the justices should revisit a decades-old decision on how specific evidence on an agreement to give something in exchange for favorable treatment or acts must be in corruption cases, the DOJ said in a filing Wednesday that Householder’s case and that of a co-defendant “would be poor vehicles for resolving the question presented.”
