Ex-Ohio House Speaker Loses Bid to Dismiss State Theft Charges

A judge rejected a request by former Ohio House Speaker Larry Householder (R) to dismiss an indictment against him brought after a separate corruption case led to his being sent to federal prison for 20 years.

Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Judge Kevin J. Kelley on Wednesday rejected arguments to dismiss the aggravated theft, theft in office, and other charges brought against Householder in 2024. Kelley said Householder didn’t prove that those prosecuting the case lacked authority to do so, that the venue was improper, or that the case was time-barred.
