Ex-NYC Judge’s Screening Panel Suit Raises Privacy Concerns (1)

A former Brooklyn judge’s breach-of-contract and defamation lawsuit against a local judicial screening panel that reviewed her re-election application raises concerns about the privacy of judges who go before the body, a Manhattan appellate judge said Tuesday.

The case in which former Brooklyn Supreme Court Justice Laura Lee Jacobson alleges members of the judicial screening panel leaked information about her to the press is frustrating, said New York Supreme Court First Appellate Department Associate Justice Sallie Manzanet-Daniels said during oral arguments Tuesday. Jacobson is appealing a lower court’s decision to dismiss her case against the panel.
