The former speaker of the Michigan House of Representatives, a Republican, was charged Tuesday in a criminal case stemming from allegations that he stole money from a nonprofit and spent it on an extravagant lifestyle.
Lee Chatfield faces 13 charges in the 54B District Court in East Lansing, the state’s attorney general announced, including conducting a criminal enterprise, various embezzlement counts, and a violation of the state’s charitable trust law.
