Ex-Detroit Mayor Kilpatrick Loses Bid to End Supervised Release

Ex-Detroit Mayor and former state legislator Kwame Kilpatrick, who was convicted in 2013 on federal racketeering, bribery, and fraud charges, will remain under supervised release, the US District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan said.

Kilpatrick “committed very serious crimes, and he still owes a significant amount of restitution,” Judge Nancy G. Edmunds said.

The former mayor used his political power to steer public contracts to co-conspirators who would then pay him kickbacks, among other things, according to the government.
