Ex-Cincinnati Councilman’s Corruption Convictions Upheld

A split Sixth Circuit panel on Tuesday upheld corruption convictions against a former Cincinnati councilman whom a jury found guilty of taking bribes in exchange for a vote.

The evidence against Alexander “P.G.” Sittenfeld was enough to support a jury’s guilty verdict for bribery and attempted extortion by a government official, the US Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit said.

“Even if some juries might disagree, that does not change the fact that Sittenfeld’s conviction was not unreasonable,” Judge John B. Nalbandian wrote, still acknowledging that the underlying investigation didn’t yield “overwhelming evidence.”
